At 23, Iga Swiatek is slowly and steadily becoming a legend in the true sense. While her tennis exploits have been much talked about, Swiatek has also been a leader in other social activities. One glaring example of it was her outspoken support for Ukraine when geopolitical tensions rose in that region. Additionally, she has been involved in several other charitable activities. However, on this occasion, the matter was more serious as a natural calamity struck her country.
Over the past few days, deadly floods have hit Central Europe, with Poland being one of the countries affected by it. At least 17 people have been reportedly killed in this natural disaster, with a gush of rain wreaking havoc in that region. Sympathizing with the affected people, Iga Swiatek took to her Instagram handle and shared her feelings, as she wrote, “Thoughts with all those affected by the floods. and services and organizations that provide assistance. You are not alone.”
Additionally, Swiatek shared a link to a fundraising platform to help the affected people with food and other basic facilities. She went on to add, “What can we do to help without being at the site of flood, this is m. in. to the best of your ability to participate in verified financial or material fundraising.”
The fundraising platform is of the Polish Red Cross, which will help the affected people with food packages, drinking water, hygiene packages, and dehumidifiers, apart from other necessary products and equipment. This is not the first time in her career that Iga Swiatek has come forward for a kind deed. A couple of years back, she was involved in another noble gesture.
When Iga Swiatek donated her prize money for mental health
Back in 2022, the Polish star reached the finals of the Agel Open. Subsequently, during the on-court interview, she made a noble gesture that left fans impressed. The World Number 1 decided to donate the prize money that she won at the tournament to a Polish mental health non-profit organization, documenting her commitment to this cause.
She said, “I really wanted to play well here to have a big amount of money to donate and I’m pretty happy that I could do that. I really want to spread awareness and let people know that they can use the help if they need it, or help others if they have resources. I’m pretty happy to use my position that way.”
Further, Swiatek also encouraged her followers on social media to donate money to a Polish charity that helps children with mental issues. “I encourage everyone to donate even small amounts to one of the charities because together we can make a difference,” the Polish star mentioned while calling on her fans to join the cause.
There have been several other examples that prove how much Swiatek cares for society in general. Indeed, she has become a legend in the true sense, hasn’t she?
