A peek into Paige Spiranac’s mantra for improving in golf

In the latest episode of Playing a Round with Paige, the golf diva discussed a few vital lessons and her best tips and tricks that she learned this year.

Playing from the front tees: The first of three lessons that she shared is playing from the front tees. She explained that anyone who wishes to start getting comfortable shooting lower scores should play from the front tees.

According to her, consistency is the key. If someone repeatedly shoots under par from the front tees, then they can move back to the next tees, but if anyone has trouble making adequate lower scores from the aforementioned tees, they should continue playing from there. “And then we can shoot under par from those tees, and you can move back, and you just go from there until you’re shooting under par from the tips,” said Spiranac.

Speed control while putting: Despite looking the easiest, for many, putting is one of the hardest parts. The golf diva said that most people think that they’re “bad putters because they miss a lot of short putts.” Diving into the’reality’ of the situation, Spiranac said that the “real reason behind it is that they have no speed control over their putting. And they are always leaving themselves with five or four footers, which are hard to make consistently.” Finding the right angle and gaining control over it and the speed makes putting much easier. Rushes or inconsistencies always break the game.

The golf mommy shared that she feels that making consistent footers can’t even be done by Pro Tour players. She has seen players not make it even 80% of the time and recognizes that the shot is indeed tricky to make. She continued that when people are leaving five-footers, they are going to have a bunch of three-footers, and she urged fans to work on their speed control. “And so I really want you to work on your tempo. Most people have bad speed control because their tempo is inconsistent.”

Elaborating on the problem faced by new golfers, she said that sometimes they “take it back too fast, sometimes they jerk it through.” She also suggested that in cases where the tempo is bad, it can be worked on indoors as well.

Importance of a good shaft: In her third tip, she emphasized the importance of a good shaft. Spiranac feels that a good shaft makes a golf club great. Every person has a different swing speed and different kick point, and sometimes their attack angle makes it spin higher or lower. And these things get decided by the shaft that is fit for them. The 30-year-old shared that she feels that people don’t think a lot about choosing the correct shaft. Choosing the most suitable one can add distance and improve dispersion. She feels that anyone who wants to get better at their game should pay attention to the type of shaft.

Well, these tips could help any learning golfer exponentially. It’s a great gift from Spiranac to all her fans for a great new year.
