The five players to win 6-0, 6-0 at the French Open more than once since 1990: Iga Swiatek joins list

Four-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek took just 40 minutes to defeat Potapova in the fourth round at Roland Garros on Court Philippe Chatrier.

It was a remarkable match with Swiatek winning five games to leave in what, unsurprisingly, turned out to be the shortest match of her career.

The 23-year-old, though, is far from the only player to achieve the feat in the Open Era as more than 20 have won a match by a 6-0, 6-0 scoreline in Paris.

The first-ever recorded 6-0, 6-0 win at the clay-court Grand Slam came one year after the start of the Open Era when Japan’s Sawamatsu defeated Belgian Monique Van Haver in 1969.

The likes of Billie Jean King, Steffi Graf and Monica Seles have all achieved the feat, but they have done it only once.

Graf, though, has the distinction of playing the shortest-ever match in Paris as she took only 32 minutes to beat Natasha Zvereva in a lopsided final in 1988. The pair played for nine minutes before an hour rain break and when they returned they played another 23 minutes before Graf won 6-0, 6-0.

But that was the only time Graf won a match 6-0, 6-0 at the French Open.

There are five players to have dished out double bagels more than once at Roland Garros since 1990 and only one of them has done it three times.

Gabriela Sabatini

Argentine tennis great Gabriela Sabatini is the only one to have achieved the feat three times and she has also done it in back-to-back seasons as she defeated Silvia Farina 6-0, 6-0 in the first round in 1992.

The following year she again started her French Open campaign with a double bagel as she beat Radomira Zrubáková in the opening round.

But her first 6-0, 6-0 win came in 1989 when she beat Akemi Nishiya in the first round.

Arantxa Sanchez Vicario

Three-time French Open winner Arantxa Sánchez Vicario was one of three players to hand out a 6-0, 6-0 drubbing at Roland Garros in 1993 as she defeated Naoko Sawamatsu in the opening round. Three years later the Spaniard again won without dropping a game against Elena Likhovtseva in the third round.

Mary Pierce

Frenchwoman Mary Pierce also kicked off her 1993 Roland Garros campaign with a double bagel with compatriot Catherine Mothes-Jobkel on the receiving end. The following year Pierce finished runner-up and en route she beat Lori McNeil 6-0, 6-0 in the third round.

Maria Sharapova

Before Swiatek, Maria Sharapova was the last player to notch up two double bagels at Roland Garros. The Russian defeated Alexandra Cadanțu in the first round in 2012 and two years later she also defeated Paula Ormaechea by a 6-0, 6-0 scoreline in the third round.

Iga Swiatek

Reigning world No 1 Swiatek is one of only three players to have achieved the double bagel feat in consecutive years at the French Open in the Open Era with Sabatini and Pierce the other two.

The Pole’s first 6-0, 6-0 win at Roland Garros came in the third round against Wang Xinyu in 2023 and she followed it up with a double bagel of Anastasia Potapova in the fourth round a year later.
