The 5 women with most Grand Slam match wins in 2024: Iga Swiatek only 4th

The four majors certainly delivered their fair share of shocks in 2024, though a few very familiar faces also found huge success at Grand Slam level.

With Slam action done until January next year, we look at the five women who recorded the most match wins across the Australian Open, French Open, US Open, and Wimbledon.

5) Emma Navarro – 14

A breakout season saw Navarro improve her result at every Grand Slam event, culminating in her run to the last four at the US Open.

Navarro beat the likes of Coco Gauff and Paula Badosa to reach that stage, with five match wins sending her through to a first major semi-final.

That was not the only good run for the American star, who had made her first Grand Slam quarter-final at Wimbledon, and before that her first fourth round at Roland Garros.

Navarro also started the year by reaching the third round of the Australian Open for the first time, culminating in a total of 14 wins at the majors.

4) Iga Swiatek – 15

It was another hugely successful year at the French Open for Swiatek, who captured a third straight title in Paris.

The world No 1 was forced to save a match point against Naomi Osaka in round two but did not drop even a set after that.

However, her Slam results elsewhere were not up to that same standard, which is why she is only fourth on this countdown.

Her best result outside of Paris came at the US Open, where she progressed to the quarter-final before a loss to eventual finalist Jessica Pegula.

Meanwhile, she suffered shock third round losses at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, leading her to a 15-3 record at the majors in 2024.

3) Coco Gauff – 16

Gauff’s game has been under scrutiny in 2024 and she did not add to her 2023 US Open title, but it still proved to be a consistent year at Slam level – with 16 match wins to her name.

She started the year strongly with a run to a first semi-final at the Australian Open, where it took eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka to beat her.

The American followed that up with another semi-final showing in Paris, where again she was beaten by the eventual champion, Swiatek.

Wimbledon and the US Open were less successful for her, losing to Navarro in the fourth round of both events, but she is one of just a small handful of players to make the second week of every Slam.

=1) Jasmine Paolini – 18

Surely the most-improved player of 2024, Paolini’s rise has been one of the best stories of the season – and powered her to two Grand Slam finals.

The Italian beat the likes of Elena Rybakina and Mirra Andreeva to reach her first major final at the French Open, falling to Swiatek in the final.

Just a few weeks later, she was back in a Slam final at Wimbledon, battling past Donna Vekic in an epic semi-final before Barbora Krejcikova got the better of her in the championship match.

Round four showings in Melbourne and New York completed a surprise rise for the 28-year-old, who had never made it past the second round of a Slam before this season.

=1) Aryna Sabalenka – 18

The dominant court of the hard court Slams in 2024, Sabalenka joins Paolini in joint-first place with 18 match wins – thanks to her triumphs at the Australian and US Opens.

Sabalenka started the year with a successful title defence in Melbourne, battling past Gauff in the last four before downing Zheng Qinwen to lift her second major singles title.
