There’s no shortage of bogus Paige Spiranac accounts floating around on social media, and the longtime golf influencer wants to make sure her biggest supporters aren’t being duped by an imposter.
In a video posted Tuesday on Instagram, the “Playing A Round” podcast host, 29, broke down what her supporters need to watch out for if they’re being approached by a “fake Paige.”
“Is the message coming from my verified account? If so, it is me,” Spiranac said, referencing her page, where she boasts more than 3.7 million followers.
“Is the message coming from an account under my name that has zero followers, it is not me, that is a fake account,” she continued.
Spiranac added that if an account in question asks for money, iTunes, Applebee’s gift cards, or a relationship, it’s a dupe.
“If this person insists on talking to you on WhatsApp or Google Hangouts, it’s not me,” Spiranac said. “If they show you a badly Photoshopped passport, driver’s license, or an old picture off of my Instagram to prove that it’s me, it’s not me.”
Another red flag Spiranac told her followers to be on the lookout for is the language used by suspicious accounts.
“If this person calls you dear, honey, handsome, valued friend, valued fan, my fan, it’s not me,” she shared.
Those tuning into the social media lesson then thanked “Professor Paige,” who also provided the handles of her actual accounts, one for her personal page and the other for her podcast.
Spiranac has long dealt with fraudulent accounts impersonating her online and has often had to deal with the frustration of fans who claim they were duped by her.
