Legend diagnoses Świątek’s problem. Honest words were spoken

Iga Świątek  was not successful  in the US Open . In the quarterfinals she was defeated by Jessica Pegula , who later had to admit the superiority of Aryna Sabalenka in the final . The last tournaments performed by the Polish player have not been as successful as at the beginning of the season.

Świątek has spoken out on numerous occasions about her busy tournament schedule. Because of it, she can’t rest, regenerate or focus on training and improving the failing parts of her game.

Her problems were diagnosed by legendary tennis player John McEnroe . “For me, the main reason Iga has had problems lately is that she doesn’t look at all like someone who has won four Roland Garros tournaments lately and is probably the best clay court player I’ve seen in 10-15 years. I think she’s been neglecting her defense more and more lately and focusing too much on attack,” he said.

In his opinion, Świątek should sometimes retreat more when her offensive play is not working. He believes that the Pole tries to play too hard.

– So I’m a little surprised that she’s been playing like this lately and either doesn’t want to or isn’t able to make changes in her tennis. That’s why I even thought that maybe she’s just stubborn. I don’t know, maybe she just feels like she’s not moving well enough lately, as well as she used to, he said.

McEnroe believes Świątek may lack confidence when playing on surfaces other than clay, and believes that if she focused more on defense, she would be harder to beat by her opponents.

“She’s still young and she knows she can win big tournaments on hard courts. She won the US Open two years ago. I hope she’ll soon feel a little more comfortable on the court, and at the net as well,” he concluded.
