It’s been a busy two years of starring in prestige film projects for Austin Butler, so he has been making the most of his downtime over the holidays, unwinding in Mexico with his girlfriend, actress and model Kaia Gerber.

The couple were photographed relaxing by the pool at their resort in Cabo, and Butler, wearing just a pair of blue swimming trunks, had his cut physique and sculpted abs on display.

Butler is known for really throwing himself into a role, having held on to his Southern accent for several months after filming wrapped on Elvis. And it looks like he is now maintaining the body he worked on while playing Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming sequel Dune: Part Two.

Butler has previously stated that he trained for four months in preparation for the sci-fi epic, in order to embody the “physically imposing presence” of the antagonist (previously portrayed by an extremely lean Sting).

Fans will have to wait until March 1, 2024 to see Butler in Dune: Part Two, but in the meantime he will be playing a prominent role in another hugely ambitious undertaking. Butler plays Major Gale Cleven in the Apple TV+ series Masters of the Air, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks’ adaptation of Donald L. Miller’s book about the “Bloody Hundredth” Bombardment Group of the U.S. Air Force who fought in the skies over Nazi Germany in the Second World War.

Featuing a sprawling ensemble cast that also includes Saltburn‘s Barry Keoghan and The Boys in the Boat‘s Callum Turner, Masters of the Air will premiere on January 26, 2024.
