Iga Swiatek announces wonderful act on World Mental Health Day

Iga Swiatek has shared a special message for this year’s World Mental Health Day as the Pole is happy about her own progress and also pledged to keep supporting mental health causes. Swiatek, 22, is a four-time Grand Slam champion and for quite some time has been very vocal about the importance of good mental health.

In 2019, Swiatek – when the Pole was still a teenager and just starting her career – she added sports psychologist Daria Abramowicz to her team. Since then, Swiatek has made drastic improvements in her own mental health and Abramowicz is helping her tackle everyday issues and problems in a healthy way.

After donating a notable sum of money to a Polish mental health charity in 2021 and 2022, Swiatek is doing the same in 2023. This year, Swiatek is donating 300k Polish Zloty to UNICEF Poland – when converted to US dollars, it’s a sum of 70.294.

That money will be redistributed to provide access to mental health professionals to those in need.

Swiatek’s message for 2023 World Mental Health Day

“Each year around World Mental Health Day I have a special time when I stop for a moment and appreciate all the work on myself I do everyday as a person and as a tennis player.

You know that this is already my small tradition to use this time to remind how important it is to prioritize the mental health of ourselves and our loved ones. I speak openly about how important it is to me and I want to speak through my actions as well, that’s why this year I will donate 300 000 PLN to UNICEF Poland for help in the field of mental health in Poland and all over the world.

Thanks to donations from people UNICEF can support children, teenagers, families and communities in taking care of their mental health. I would like to encourage you to have a look around and see if there’s someone there who could use your help.

You can make a donation of your choice to organizations like UNICEF that professionally help people (if you’re able to). I know it’s important to some people that public figures who ‘succeeded’ speak loudly about such things: this is normal and human that we face problems, this is normal to ask for help, this is normal to go to therapy when we need it.

And… I hope that nobody is alone with their problems because we can always find good and mindful people around… This is what I wish for you all, to have good people around, not only when we celebrate World Mental Health Day – Iga,” Swiatek said in a message posted on her X account.
