Although Iga Świątek is still the leader of the WTA rankings, the Polish player is not currently considered one of the players in the best shape. The 23-year-old’s recent tournaments are confirmation of this. The results in them were different from expectations.
During the competition in Cincinnati, Świątek was eliminated in the semifinals after losing to Aryna Sabalenka (3:6, 3:6). In turn, in the last Grand Slam tournament of the season, the US Open, the Polish player was unable to defeat Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals (2:6, 4:6).
The results are one thing, but Świątek’s game itself was worrying. Raszynianka made numerous mistakes, being completely helpless in many situations. What’s worse, there has been no improvement in the last few weeks. Paweł Ostrowski spoke on this matter in “Fakt” .
The former coach of Marta Domachowska and Angelika Kerber, among others, points out that Świątek is in no way able to surprise her opponents. They are already resistant to her moves, which used to be her advantage. Now they are no longer.
– Her tennis skills have come to a slight halt. Iga plays in a way that has brought her success in recent years, and on the one hand it’s hard to be surprised. On the other hand, her rivals have become accustomed to this type of play and are no longer impressed by the speed of the balls Iga plays. They learn and evolve, that’s normal – he said.
Ostrowski sees the reasons for this state of affairs in the Olympic Games. Not only did they cost Świątek a lot of energy, but also emotions. The events in Paris are now supposed to affect the Polish woman’s performance.
– Iga is now simply paying the price for the Games – Ostrowski emphasized.
Let us recall that the number one of women’s tennis will be back on the court in a few days. The player announced her participation in the WTA Seoul tournament , which will take place from September 16-22
