Unfazed, Spiranac responded sharply: “So, what I’m gathering is that you hate boobs,” adding: “But everyone loves boobs. Boobs are great! ” She also tweeted: “There’s a lot going on in the world that should bother you and offend you. Boobs ain’t one of them.”
Spiranac, who often faces backlash for sexualizing women’s golf, has a massive online following with millions of followers across several social media channels.
The LGPA Tour’s stricter dress code in 2017 sparked controversy and resistance, with Spiranac being a vocal opponent.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Spiranac shared her thoughts on her choice of attire on the golf course. She recalled a time when finances were tight, which influenced her decision: “I was a gymnast before I switched into golf,” Spiranac said.
“I was so comfortable wearing spandex and very little of it because that’s just what you wear when you’re wearing a leotard and you’re competing.”
“When I switched to golf, we were struggling a little bit financially, so I didn’t have the luxury to go out and buy a whole new golf-appropriate wardrobe. And so, I wore what was in my closet, which was workout clothes. That’s just how I learned to play the game.”
Spiranac also reflected on her early career, noting her participation in the 2016 LPGA Qualifying Tournament where she did not secure a professional card. Prior to this, she competed on the Cactus Tour, a less prestigious mini-tour for women, and ended the season with winnings of $8,010.
Spiranac initially gained recognition for her golf skills while attending the University of Arizona and later San Diego State University. During her time in college, she earned several awards, including First-Team All-Mountain West honors in her second year and Second-Team All-Mountain West honors in her third year.
In her final year, she won the Mountain West Conference Championship, a first for her university.
Apart from her achievements in golf, Spiranac has also modeled for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition and appeared in Golf Digest. Notably, she became the first athlete to be named “Sexiest Woman Alive” by Maxim magazine in 2022, topping their Hot 100 list.
