Fibak on Wiktorowski’s future. “I heard many voices”

This season for Iga Świątek  is far from ideal. The Polish tennis player has won Roland Garros once again, but apart from that, she has not even reached the semifinals in the Grand Slam tournaments. In the current US Open, she had to admit the superiority of Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals.

In addition, there is only the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Expectations were much higher, but the Raszynian did not succeed in many things. This led some to suggest that it might be worth considering changing the coach, who is Tomasz Wiktorowski .

Hubert Hurkacz recently decided to take such a step, after several years of working with Craig Boynton. Should Świątek do the same? Wojciech Fibak spoke on the matter.

– Defeats are inscribed in the DNA of tennis players, you can’t win everything. I stand behind Tomek Wiktorowski, because I’ve heard many voices that maybe Iga should do like Hubert Hurkacz and part ways with her coach. Absolutely not. These are completely different situations. The fact that Iga lost in Paris to Zheng, or in New York to Pegula, has nothing to do with Tomek’s poor tactics or any shortcomings on his part. The team continues to function perfectly – says Fibak.

Artur Szostaczko, Świątek’s first coach, is also disappointed with this season of the WTA world ranking leader. However, he sees no reason to panic and no serious threat from his competitors.

– I believe in Iga. Sabalenka plays simple tennis – she either sits or doesn’t sit. We’ll see what Rybakina will present, Pegula has caught up in form, we can’t forget about Zheng. Iga plays the most consistent tennis out of all these players. It’s true that apart from Roland Garros, she hasn’t reached any semi-finals in the Grand Slam, but that’s just how her season is – Szosztaczko explains on TVP Sport.
