Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page has landed a role in Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming star-studded thriller.
Titled Black Bag, the film sees Page — who rose to fame playing Simon Basset aka The Duke of Hastings on Bridgerton season one — starring opposite Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender (via Deadline).
Details for the plot are being kept under wraps, but it seems the picture will start filming this spring.
It seems Page has closed the door on returning for a new instalment of Bridgerton alongside his onscreen partner Phoebe Dynevor, who played Daphne Bridgerton, now Duchess of Hastings.
“It’s much simpler than that,” Page told Vanity Fair responding to speculations about why he didn’t go back for season 2.
“I signed up to do a job and I did the job and then I did some other jobs. That’s it. That’s the story. I wish it was more glamorous than that,” he added.
He then said: “[After] we finished the story, the temptation would be to roll with the distractions and go: ‘Oh, well, the story went really well so we can kind of change this up and make some other stuff up, I guess’. That was never what we’d signed up to do.”
Following his breakout role on Shonda Rhimes’ acclaimed period drama, Page went on to star in The Gray Man and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
Meanwhile, the third chapter of Bridgerton will soon hit Netflix with a first half of episodes focusing on Penelope Featherington’s (Nicola Coughlan) quest for a husband, aided by her (former?) love interest Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).
